Through the GWEC Practical Work Experience (PWE) program, internships/coops are available only to GWEC member-school students who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Students completing applications are not guaranteed interviews or internships. Internships are competitive -- your opportunity will be enhanced by your academic performance, your cover letter and resumé, and your interviewing skills. Check with your campus Career Services Office for help.
To apply for a PWE, please read the Instructions for PWE Application given below and then complete the online application form. After you complete the form, the information you entered will be displayed on a printable page and you will be given instructions for mailing the following to GWEC:
- Your completed, printed application form (required)
- Faculty reference letter (required)
- Your resumé (required)
- Your cover letter (required)
Only those applications completed according to the instructions and procedures given on this page will be considered for PWE positions.
Instructions for PWE Application
- You will need a Javascript-capable browser (Netscape Version 2 or later, Explorer Version 3 or later) to complete the application.
- Before you start completing the online PWE Application form, have the following information with you:
- Your Social Security Number
- Schools you have attended with dates of attendance and Grade Point Averages attained
- Employers and dates worked
- Faculty and work references: names, official titles, addresses, phone numbers
- Courses you have completed and expect to complete within your major area with:
- Official Department and Course Numbers
- Official course titles
- Quarter and year completed (or expected to complete)
- Number of credits assigned to each course
- Your grade achieved for each completed course
- Complete the PWE Application as instructed electronically. Only these online-printed applications will be accepted.
- Complete ALL the information requested. Include your school addresses, the address and telephone number for each of your references, etc.
- If you have interest in only a particular position, location or company, please identify that information in the appropriate boxes on the application. Please be honest about your geographical preferences. Do not state that you will accept any location if you are unwilling to relocate for an internship. Also recognize that each limitation you present may decrease your internship opportunities.
- A reference letter from a current faculty member or your school GWEC Liaison must be included with your application. If you are unsure who is the GWEC contact on your campus, use the liaison finder or ask your wireless course instructor. Faxed or emailed reference letters will not be accepted. Your reference letter must be the original signed copy, printed on school letterhead, and addressed to:

- Your resumé must be included with your application. If you need help preparing your resumé, please visit the Career Services Office on your campus.
- A cover letter must be included with your application. If you need help with a cover letter, ask an instructor or your Career Services Office.
- Representatives from companies will contact you directly. You might consider forewarning roommates who answer your phone that a business call might be coming for you.
- Do not mail your application/ resumé directly to any of the companies. Do not contact any companies directly until after they have contacted you.
- Advise the GWEC office immediately if any of your contact information (address/ phone/ email) changes after you send your application.
